Thanks Bob for the comment.

Funny I have actually not cycled for a long, long time. I really need to do that and get myself in shape. Maybe next year, after we finally get a house where I can store a bike...

I grew up in Canada. My dad was too cheap to buy me a 'kid's' bike so when I was about 5, I received a beautiful bicycle (after spending an hour finding it using the 'treasure hunt' method - I loved that part!)...but it was SO BIG! It had 24" wheels - I would never be able to ride that bike I thought to myself...Now of course it wasn't the family bike or anything special like that - no, this was meant for me. My dad tried to teach me to ride (him pushing the back of the seat while I steered - my feet wouldn't be able to reach the pedals for another 6 years or so) - but this was so scary I dreaded the mention of it. But I never ever considered the process you so eloquently outlined - using it as a scooter and then actually operating the pedals with your right foot sticking through the frame. No wonder Chinese are so confident!

No, I finally was given a small 'kid's' bike when I was about 8 (we'd moved to the USA and a neighbor took pity on my loneliness) and I loved that little thing...

So here I am now, 52 years old. I've owned countless motorcycles and bicycles both - I love to ride either type whenever I can.
